Another outreach night in the books! While it started off a little slow, it ended with some impactful moments.

Setting Up Shelter
I set up a brand new tent at Musgrave Park, a familiar sight for those I support. While there, I bumped into a friend who'd been down on his luck, sleeping in the BBQ area. Thankfully, a new tent and air mattress provided some much-needed comfort.
Familiar Faces and New Needs
There were some familiar faces at Kurilpa Point Park. One person I'd helped previously, who'd recently been attacked, looked much better. I'll get him a tent tomorrow night. Another new individual crossed my path, and I gave him my number, earning the nickname "Paul Tent Mayor" – a moment that brought a smile.
Helping a Young Woman in Need
Meeting a young woman alone at the park was a cause for concern. Stranded without a working phone and only 16, she'd been couch-surfing for weeks. The conversation shifted into "concerned parent mode" as I emphasized the dangers she faced. While she might consider returning home, I also provided resources for Brisbane Youth Service, North West Youth Accommodation Service, and Centrelink.
Unexpected Connections
Interestingly, this young woman was connected to LaLa, the dog I once helped find a home for. Offering to take her to her destination turned into a chance for conversation and support. While I may have worn out her welcome with some advice, she at least has options moving forward.
Looking Out for All
LaLa's thin frame gave me pause, so I'll be dropping off some dog food tomorrow to ensure she's well-fed.
The Numbers Tell a Story
Tonight, 30kg of bread and 40kg of fruits and vegetables found their way to those in need.
Every outreach night offers a chance to connect, support, and offer a glimmer of hope.
