Here at Northwest Community Group (NWCG), we've been humbled by the recent surge in demand for our services. The sheer number of people reaching out for help in the past three days has been overwhelming, a testament to the critical role NWCG plays in Brisbane's homeless community.
A Call to Action – and a Heartwarming Response:
While away, I was bombarded with messages about the increasing need. Nick, our tireless volunteer, has been working tirelessly, driving across the city to assist everyone he can. Realizing our dwindling resources, we put out a plea for monetary donations on social media. The response was nothing short of incredible. Within a couple of hours, donations soared to $1,000, and as of now, we're sitting at an amazing $1,400! These funds will provide much-needed air mattresses, sleeping bags, and other essentials for those in need.
A Team Effort Makes the Dream Work:
The NWCG team has truly stepped up to the challenge. Chris has been a delivery machine, ensuring people receive food from Coles and Stone & Brew. Tania selflessly dedicated her time to manage the Malaysia Nyonya House donation and our Monday night stall. Dani has been tackling tent logistics, ensuring proper signage and monitoring for council removal threats. Claudia and Peter heroically manned the Saturday outreach stand. Bronwyn has been a whiz at organizing our overflowing garage of donations, and Janine tackled a massive sorting session yesterday.
From Humble Beginnings to a Powerful Community:
Looking back, it's hard to believe our journey began with a simple bag of clothes. The NWCG family has blossomed into a force for good, supporting countless individuals facing homelessness. From the bottom of my heart, a massive thank you to every single person who contributes their time, energy, and resources. Together, we are making a real difference!
