Today was a day of catching up and offering support.
First, I visited Casey, a resident at the Morningside housing complex, who recently had his gallbladder removed. While an Uber voucher would have been easier, I felt it was important to pick him up in person, chat, and ensure he settled back in comfortably. Those personal touches make a big difference. He's doing well, though feels a bit under the weather – perfectly understandable!
Earlier in the week, I received a generous laptop donation from someone leaving our area. This perfect gift immediately made me think of Rohan, some of our longer-term followers might remember him. He struggled with sobriety earlier this year while living in Musgrave Park. Though currently staying with friends, he's still working towards recovery. We're in constant contact, and I offer him support. He recently had a setback but is determined to get back on track.
This laptop is a game-changer! Rohan's a talented developer, and he's agreed to help with the NWCG website. This project, along with updating his resume and getting him on job boards, will hopefully provide a clear path towards a stable life.
We even managed to squeeze in a chess game – and let me tell you, this guy is a master! He's always several moves ahead, leaving me checkmated before I even see it coming. Despite the loss, it was a truly rewarding day spent connecting with these individuals.
