Checking In & Community Support

This week offered a chance to reconnect with someone in need and witness the incredible spirit of our community.

Helping a Friend in Need:

One morning, a question about a French backpacker we'd helped prompted me to reach out. It had been two weeks, and upon contacting him, I learned he was unfortunately back on the streets after two nights in a Mt Gravatt park. The housing situation with the girl he was staying with had become untenable due to drug use. He hadn't found work yet and felt defeated.

We offered him a choice: return home or stay with us while he job hunts. Thankfully, he's eager to keep trying! We're helping him with his resume and job search, hoping he can enjoy more of Australia before heading home. He's currently resting comfortably after a hot meal, shower, and a much-needed sleep.

Monday Night BBQ Steps Up!

With the regular organizers on holiday, we stepped in to run the Monday night BBQ at Kurilpa. It was a team effort! A Green volunteer, Brett, joined us for cooking, while Vita and Shirlene prepped the food at my place beforehand. We were thrilled to welcome Tracey Smith, a community powerhouse known for her incredible work. We're hoping to collaborate more closely in the future – her energy and those famous muffins were a highlight!

Thanks to generous monetary donations, we served 40 burgers to a busy crowd. Your continued support makes this vital service possible.

This week exemplified the importance of checking in, offering support, and the amazing things that can happen when our community comes together.
