A Night of Unexpected Events & Community Support: A Day in the Life of Northwest Community Group

Connecting with the Community:

Northwest Community Group's evening began at Pride Coffee, celebrating the launch of their new community space. It was a pleasure meeting Dennis and some local residents. We look forward to attending future events held there and fostering a vibrant community spirit.

Delivering Essentials & Responding to Needs:

A significant food haul from Coles ensured our Musgrave Park distribution was well-stocked. Two individuals received new tents this evening, raising the total in the park to 38.

Witnessing a Medical Emergency:

Just as we were setting up a tent, a frantic scene unfolded. One resident rushed to Carla's tent where she was experiencing a seizure. Having confirmed no one had called emergency services, we immediately dialed for an ambulance.

Providing Support Through Crisis:

The seizure lasted for approximately two minutes, followed by Carla regaining some responsiveness. We placed her on the bed while awaiting the ambulance arrival. Further instructions from the dispatcher led to staying on the line and monitoring Carla's breathing. All we could do was offer comfort as we held her hand until the ambulance arrived.

Understanding Priorities & Delayed Response:

The ambulance arrival was delayed, but the presence of a police escort upon their arrival shed light on the situation. While recognizing the importance of police involvement, it's undeniable that this delayed Carla's medical attention.

Recovery & Continued Support:

Following a thorough check-up, the ambulance crew left Carla at her tent. Interestingly, she called shortly thereafter requesting drinks and food – a positive sign of her improved state.

Ensuring Food Security & A Long Night:

Our evening concluded with food deliveries to all four pantries. Exhausted but satisfied, we finally reached home by 1:45 am.

A Busy Weekend Ahead:

Northwest Community Group has a jam-packed weekend planned! Tomorrow begins with a volunteer induction for Bubble & Squeak, followed by our regular Fortitude Valley stand. Sunday brings the Signal Flare – Helping the Homeless and Others in Need event in Goodna.

Exhausted but Hopeful:

While sleep is desperately needed, we're excited about the opportunities to connect with the community and make a positive impact. Stay tuned for updates on our weekend adventures!

Please note: Out of respect for Carla's privacy, specific details concerning her medical condition have been omitted.
