Tonight was a night of quiet support and heartwarming community connections.
Replenishing Pantries:
The evening began with a grocery run at Coles, joined by Vita. We restocked the pantries at both The Brunswick Hotel and Community Plus+ West End Community House, ensuring access to essential items for those in need.
Checking in on Donny:
Concerned about Donny's recent low spirits, we picked up some KFC and headed over for a visit and dinner. While enjoying the meal, we tackled some practical tasks – registering his go card with some credit to facilitate travel and setting up his electricity account. Exploring senior citizen benefits hit a snag – applying for a senior's card requires an electricity bill, so that will need to wait.
Community Steps Up for Donny:
We were delighted to hear that Micah Projects, prompted by a previous post, sent a medical professional to Donny's place to address his leg/foot issue. Additionally, other programs reached out to offer him support! A huge thank you to everyone at Micah Projects for their swift and caring response.
An Offer of Kindness:
The evening was further brightened by a new community member contacting me. Already volunteering with another organization, she expressed a desire to help Donny with meals. She generously offered to visit him twice a week, providing meals and fresh fruit, until he feels more settled and supported. This act of kindness extends far beyond the food itself – the companionship and regular visits will undoubtedly have a significant positive impact on Donny's mental wellbeing.
A Reminder of Our Community's Spirit:
Donny's story is a beautiful reminder of the compassion and generosity that reside within our community. From the medical attention provided by Micah Projects to the ongoing support offered by this new volunteer, a network of care is forming around Donny. Thank you to everyone who plays a part in creating this supportive environment!
