Hey everyone, Nick here! Just got back a little after 1:30 am – a late night, but definitely a rewarding one.
Seeing Paul's Dedication Up Close:
Dropping Paul and Noi off at the airport today really highlighted the tireless work they do for NWCG and the people they support. Paul's dedication is truly inspiring – that guy never seems to stop!
Deliveries with Heart:
The car was loaded up with donated tents, blankets, pillows, and other essentials – a heartwarming reminder of the thoughtful generosity within our community. The gratitude on the faces of those receiving these items is truly humbling.
A Helping Hand and Sweet Treats:
On the way to Musgrave, I swung by Second Bite to grab some bread, donuts, and croissants. Helping hands are always appreciated, and by this point, I already had four calls from people needing assistance. One kind gentleman offered to help out – a welcome addition to the team!
New Tents and Full Bellies:
Tonight, we helped three people set up their new tents. Even temporary housing makes a big difference, and their eagerness to get settled was heartwarming.
A Community Effort for Dinner:
A delicious homemade curry from the Anti-Poverty Network QLD was a welcome treat, and later, the Church of Latter Day Saints joined in, handing out over 30 pizzas! Needless to say, everyone had a satisfying dinner.
Replenishing Pantries Across Brisbane:
After a minor detour (thanks to some questionable route planning) and a quick battle with a rogue spider in the car, I managed to restock pantries at several locations across Brisbane: Community Plus+ West End Community House, Brunswick Street Pantry, Max Chandler-Mather MP's office, Community Plus+ Yeronga Community Centre, Picabeen Community Centre, and the Northwest Community Pantry at the Ferny Grove Tavern.
Looking Forward to More:
Although it was a long night, the positive impact on the community makes it all worthwhile. I'm already looking forward to getting back out there and continuing to help!
